Marie Casel is Chef/Owner of Sweet Marie’s Hawaii. She was born and raised in Philadelphia. Marie’s passion for fine food & wine inspired her to explore a cooking career.
In1982 her career accelerated at the Reading Terminal Market as catering Chef for the American Ballet Company. In 1985 Marie moved to Los Angeles California to purse a career in Motion Picture Catering.
In 1986 she decided to further her culinary education and enrolled in the University of Los Angeles California in their Culinary Arts Program. Marie spent 2 years studying Classic French cooking techniques and the fine art of food & wine. Marie was the Chef for 2 years at Bluewaters Terrace, a full-service caterer and special events center, located in Redondo Beach, California.
In 1992 Marie moved to Kauai, Hawaii. Several months after moving to Kauai, Hurricane Iniki devastated the island. Marie volunteered to cook and run the Red Cross kitchen in Waimea, preparing 3,700 meals 2 x’s per day for the hurricane victims with the help of many volunteers and one rice cooker.
In 1993 Marie joined the team at “A Pacific Café” as Pastry Chef, creating many unique desserts for several years.
Marie became passionate about developing a Gluten Free & Allergen Friendly food after being diagnosed with Celiac Sprue. She has spent the last 30 plus years studying different dietary lifestyles. Marie has focused her culinary talent on development and testing, catering to a unique clientele who have certain dietary restrictions, which led to being the recipient of the Small Business Person of the Year, for the County of Kauai, 2012.
Currently, Marie has joined the team at Big Island Farms and resides in Honokaa on the Big Island of Hawaii, steps away from magical Waipio Valley.
